Why Asmodeus?
I fell in love with Asmodeus, aka Ozzie, as soon as I saw him on screen in Season 1 Episode 7. The moment he came on screen I knew I had to make him eventually. I lost track how many times I watched this episode in the entire process of making this costume, and hoo boy that was a journey.
Construction:
Hat: The hat is completely made of foam and satin and hand sewn together. The feathers have 12 gauge wire running through them so that they can be positioned how I want and are hand sewn on. At debut was secured to the wig with wire underneath going up through the wig into the hat column.
Jacket: The jacket is completely self patterned. To achieve the more accurate colour for the jacket, I took bright purple satin and overlayed it with dark blue organza that I had leftover from prior projects. It was basted and then stay-stitched into place. The applique was done myself using leftover heavy dull satin from my first Lucifer coat, fusible interfacing, and satin stitching it into place. I used teardrop rhinestones for extra sparkle. Everything is fully finished inside the jacket. The hearts on the sleeves are patches that I hand sewed on, and the heart in the front is a patch that I made bigger by adding structured satin underneath and adding more sequins. The bottom edge of the jacket is supported with horsehair braid to help it defy gravity.
Gloves: The gloves were made by tracing my hand on the material and stitching around that. Very simple and straightforward, honestly the only method I truly trust for making gloves with how small my hands are.
Skirt: The skirt is made of leftover faux leather from Valentino. It's custom patterned and I took inspiration from real sexy faux leather skirts to make the zipper go the full length. It does up at the top with hooks and eyes and a snap fastener.
Tail & butt feathers: The long tail feathers are 60" in length, have fusible interfacing to help their shape and have 12 gauge wire inside to customize how they're positioned. The tail feathers secure into a simple and basic harness made of anti-fatigue foam mat. The harness just sits inside the skirt. The blue butt feathers have buckram inside to help support the shape and were hand closed shut at the top seam. They secure to an elastic waistband with snap fasteners.
Boots: The boots were a challenge but I was happy to take it on. I used a dying old pair of punk boots and made a pattern tracing over them on paper. It took a few attempts to get heights and shapes right, but the final one was most satisfying. The spikes at the back are filled with stuffing and buckram. The front shape is supported with recycled upholstery foam from my old mattress foam and stuffing. The toe shape is supported underneath using a cut up anti-fatigue mat and an old cut up anti-slip mat for shelves. It worked really well and is secured with contact cement. The red leather at the bottom of the boot was machine appliqued on, and I hand stitched sequin trims over top the edges of the leather. The top is partially lined for a cleaner finish.
A photoshoot is coming (hopefully) soon with @asher_enterprix as Fizzarolli!
