Why Briar Rose?
Sleeping Beauty is my favourite Disney movie, and as well Aurora is my favourite Disney Princess. Naturally, I need to cosplay as many versions of her as I can. Her peasant outfit, or Briar Rose, is a really sweet outfit and it looked like it would be very comfortable and fun to wear. Which it is!
Fun fact: The top, skirt, and shawl are made out of bed sheets I bought at Value Village, and the black for the corset I had gotten free when Sears Belleville Distribution Centre closed. I spent very little on fabric!
Top: I custom drafted my own pattern for my shirt, even the pattern, making it billow at the end. The bottom of the sleeves are gathered into fitted cuffs. The collar is made of leftover cotton from a prior project.
Faux corset: I used the bodice for a dress pattern I had used before and modified it as needed. I made a mockup first to check the fit and seam lines. Once satisfied, made the real thing out of the black cotton, even adding in stitch lines on the outer layer of it to make it look more like a corset. It does up in the back with velcro.
Skirt: I sewed a loop of elastic to sit around my waist. I sewed the skirt into essentially a giant tube and did the waistband using the elastic. Because there was so much more material than needed for my waist, I took the last few inches and turned it into a secret pocket. I don't put anything heavy in, maybe some change or my phone.
Shawl: I just cut a wide strip off another bed sheet and just hemmed it.
Wig: I bought a Luthien in Pale Blonde and brushed it out. I trimmed one side of the bangs and just used a gold bobby pin to secure her little curl. The headband is just one I bought from the dollar store.
