Why Christmas Rei?
Believe it or not but it was the fall of 2016 that I started planning making this costume to wear to Quinte Mini Con for 2017 with my friend Simakai. As a bonus, Simakai mailed me the velvet and woolly fur so that these fabrics would match between our two costumes! My satin was left over from an older Christmas costume :) It's a super cute outfit and it's also surprisingly really warm!
Dress: I drafted the pattern and modified as I went to get the fit right. I intended to make the dress slightly longer than the artwork, but after taking it in, hemming, and adding the zipper, it ended up the length in the art. Oh well! It's Christmas satin. The heart cut out has both a facing and a modesty cover. The modesty cover is done using flesh tone spandex that I bought years ago and have been using it since for such things.
Coat: I made the coat with the velvet and fur from Simakai. The fur for the most part is hand sewn to the coat. The coat is also fully lined with lining I had lying around that I couldn't remember what I had bought it for. I made a simple collar for the coat instead of a hood since I didn't see the point in making a hood when she never wears it and has a hat.
The hat is also made of the velvet and fur, unlined. I made a simple triangle for the hat and followed along with this method that I've used many times.
Mittens I traced around my hands and pinned the piping in between and sewed in place on the machine (usually I hand sew piping...).
I didn't have time for the boot covers or wand. I intend to have these in the future should I wear this costume more!
The wig is a Magnum in Aqua from Arda Wigs gently styled by me. I also have the hair clips from the anime in the wig that were a birthday gift from Simakai.
