Why AC Cloud Strife?
I'd actually wanted to do this costume for years, but kept pushing it back because other projects would come up that I was far more motivated for. I fell in love with Cloud when I first saw Advent Children years ago when it first came out, and I loved his outfit. Once I started doing cosplay I wanted to make it... finally now, when Kirilee Cosplay & Alana Owlet Cosplay announced the Scrap Epic 2020 Lockdown Edition, I took the chance to make him! The only requirements were to use the stash, and you could not physically go buy items that were needed - I only had to buy the wig!
Construction:
Pants: The pants I just used my standard men's pants pattern and adjusted as needed. The pants have an elastic waistband. I noticed a hole in the fabric I chose to use, and since Cloud has straps on the leg where the hole was, I hand sewed the strap in place over top of it. The skirt? wrap?? piece was just a rectangle cut out to my measurements, drawn with tailor's chalk, cut out, and hemmed. It's sewn directly to the pants.
Straps: I sewed one giant long tube and cut to lengths as needed to make the two straps for the pants, and the one for the pauldron. The ones for the pants are sewn on directly and secure in the front with Velcro. The pauldron strap is contact cemented in place on either side of the pauldron. Temporarily I have craft foam buckles that were spray painted and sewn in place.
Shirt: I drafted my own shirt pattern and took it in as needed. I made the collar and strengthened/stiffened it using quilt batting. The zipper was sewn in as normal. The collar is hand finished with whip-stitches. The sleeve was some leftover fabric from an old project that I cut into a rectangle, hemmed, and sewed into the arm scye.
Pauldron: Made out of L200 foam, sewn the two sides together (yes, I did that cause I had no contact cement at the time lol), and heat formed. I covered the whole pauldron with Worbla. The wolf is made of Lumin's Workshop Foam Clay and sculpted over a small base of plastic wrap for a bit of volume to reduce the amount of foam clay used. Keep in mind this is all in my stash! After wolfy was set, I painted him, and used E6000 to secure it to the pauldron. I then hand painted the pauldron black, and sealed the paint with a matte spray finish.
Wig: I ordered a Jareth in Champagne from Arda Wigs Canada. Honestly, I just followed their Sora wig (KHIII) styling tutorial for doing the spikes and just adjusted as needed for Cloud. I'm honestly more pleased with the wig than I thought I would be!
