Cumulonimbus - Original
Worn:
Costume Con 35 (Mississauga, ON)
Location Shoot 2018 (August, @home area)
Status: Hiatus
I made this costume for the Future Fashion Folio showcase at Costume Con 35. This design was in the folio and I fell in love with it. I was going to make my own, but I liked this a lot better.
The hair clip is simply craft foam cut into an uneven star and spray painted, and hot glued onto a barrette.
The bodysuit was made using stretch satin and spandex. To make the suit I heavily modified my bodysuit pattern made by Yaya Han. The suit is custom fitted and does up with a zipper and hook & eye in the back. I hand sewed clear bra straps on to help it stay up. The lightning bolt cut out was done using packing paper, cut out, and then carefully hand sewing a spandex lightning bolt into place as a modesty cover. The edges of the lightning bolt in the satin are sealed with hot glue.
The shoulder pieces are 6 layers of tulle doubled over on themselves to be 12 to create the poof. They secure onto my arms using a single elastic at the top of each one.
The skirt is made in a similar fashion, but with an elastic at the bottom to help the shape.
The strings of "rain" are made using fishing line and about 100-200 beads glued and slid on. The strings are hand tied into the skirt using knots for attaching a line lead onto fishing line. Doing this process took me through about 4 Disney movies with how tiny many of the beads are.
Costume was entered in the showcase at CC35. No awards were one, but the costume has been seen by the designer Rebecca McKercher and she is so thrilled to have seen that I made her design.
