Fancy Alastor - Hazbin Hotel
Worn:
NOT Costume Con 38 (Montreal, QC)
Status: Active
Why Fancy Alastor?
I got the idea to do a fancied up version of Alastor when I decided I wanted to have him for the Single Pattern Contest at Costume Con 38 - sadly the event was cancelled due to COVID-19/Coronavirus. I wanted to make it fancy and still stay fairly loyal to his original design in the show.
This costume took from November 2019 until late February 2020 for completion.
Wig: Magnum long in Apple Red, wefts in Apple Red, and wefts in Black. All from Arda Wigs Canada (the black ones were leftover from Bill!). I first teased the bangs and a bit at the back of the wig for volume. I sewed in the black wefts going along his hair, once the wefts were in there, I added a bit of tulle gathered up on the sewing machine for a little extra volume. The "ears" or "floofs" are made using craft foam I had in stock, using wires for support and gluing wefts onto them. Once dry, I secured them into the wig with a mix of using the wire, gluing and sewing. The antlers (description next) were secured into the wig using their wires. The rest of the wig was styled just using Got2b blasting freeze spray and a hair dryer.

Antlers: I made a wire skeleton to help support their shape, and added Lumin's Workshop Foam Clay (also from Arda) for the body. After allowing them to cure, I primed and painted them, and once the wig was ready added them as described above.
Monocle: I used a loop bought at Michaels as a base for the monocle's shape, and wrapped some of the wire around it, and using the wire as the support for the bridge of my nose and my ear. I used Worbla TranspArt for the lens which I coloured with a Copic Marker. I used fishing line to string the beads and it is tied to the ring attached to the loop.
Bow tie & dress shirt I already had from past projects (bow tie from Bill, shirt from Godai).
Coat: Now this was for the Single Pattern Contest, where they had selected commercially available patterns that you were to use ahead of time. I used McCalls 7271 (based off of Fairy Godmother in the live action Cinderella from 2015), and modified it into the coat. The coat is made of matte satin and lined with polyester lining. All of the lace and trim on the coat is completely hand sewn on. The lining at the back of the neck and at the sleeve cuffs is hand finished. The coat closes with ribbons looping over the buttons. The stripes going down the front and back of the coat are ribbons that were sewn on in the early stages of construction. The shoulder point shape is supported using interfacing, buckram and fiber fil.
Pants: The pants are made using a fabric that I received after Sears closed down and had in my stock. I followed a pattern I'm well familiar with. The laces are hand sewn on.
Gloves: For now, I use my red & black leather gloves I bought while on vacation in Quebec City.
Makeups used:
Mehron Paradise in Storm Cloud (grey)
Mehron Paradise in Red
NYX BLack Lip Creme
Hard Candy liquid eyeliner
Hard Candy mascara
Rimmel blacks eyeshadow palette
