Why Lingerie Grell?
I originally wanted to do this costume in 2013, but due to lack of knowledge of confidence, I didn't do it. I love the design and even though it's not something I would normally make - or even wear for a boyfriend - it's really sexy and fun. It was definitely a different kind of challenge for me compared to what I usually tend to make.
I was able to save myself a bit of time - and even money - with this costume. My old nightie Grell that I had made in 2013 was loosely based off of this design.
I took apart the old nightie, taking the 'skirt' off of the 'top'. This save me a lot of time for making the top part of the nightgown from scratch when I already had it.I hand sewed the lace on top of the satin top. I had ordered the beautiful bright red 4" scalloped lace trim off of ebay and it arrived to me within a week. I bought way more than I needed and used, but better more than less.
The bottom part of the top layer of the nightgown was made with chiffon. I made it in the same manner that I did the first one of making a tube. I cut it to length after the skirt was made and added the black lace trim afterwards. I made the bow in front by hand and hand sewed it on in the centre front of the nightgown.
The skirt is 3 layers of satin sewn together, each with it's black lace trim to match everywhere else on the costume. There's an elastic waistband to make it easier to pull on and off and for comfort.
The robe was made from a pattern I made myself and modified a sleeve pattern to what I needed. Once I had all of the main pieces sewn together I set forth to hem everything. I added the red lace trim on the bottom, sewed it on, and then did the next layer on the bottom with the black in one shot. I did similar with the sleeves, and then again with the black lace trim for around the neck of the robe. I machine sewed the ribbon going around the sleeves on, and the bows on the sleeves of the robe are hand sewn on.
I already had the tights, shoes, wig, and glasses from past costumes.
