Status: Active
Awards:
Honourable Mention for the Lipsync (GAnime 2024 - Master Division)
Why the Partial Remake?
I actually was asked this, and the reasoning? I wanted to match more closely to the official redesign. Honestly the coat of the original version was largely my own interpretation for the bottom, since I only had the portrait from the pilot to go off of. I finished the costume in time for the series premiere!
Construction:
Hat Updates: I had to repair the original hat, and the first part was completely removing the top as it had caved in after a few years. I straightened it out with my heat gun, and reinforced it with Worbla and galvanized wire to ensure it wouldn't cave in again. New top and lining fabrics were cut and hand sewn in place, and the repaired top was hand sewn back on using a ladder stitch. The back seam of the column of the hat was also fixed with tight ladder stitches.
Crown: The crown was made of craft foam with a layer of Worbla for extra strength. To make it easy on myself for potential repairs and upgrades, I made a sort of "glove" to go over it so I could sew it onto the hat. Jewels were glued onto the points with E6000.
Snake: I did much the same as I did with the original one, making myself a pattern about 74" long. This time the snake has galvanized wire running the entire length of it's body so that it's completely posable. Worbla on the sharp ends to prevent it poking through the wire.
New coat: Using flat pattern methods I made myself a new coat pattern for Lucifer, using similar shaping to my Asmodeus jacket in the shoulders. The coat is fully lined, with the sleeves being finished inside by hand. The collar features applique inside for the red. All of the trim was sewn on by hand for total control of the shaping. An extra upgrade from the original was using gunmetal black chain and jump rings attached to one side of the buttons through the shanks, the other looping over the other side.
New gloves: I used the tracing method for my hand, fitting it properly to be as tight as possible.
Ring: I lucked out finding wire, cut it and shaped it to fit to my finger when wearing the gloves to be his wedding ring.
Cane updates: I completely replaced the original stem and leaf with brand new ones. The new stem has wire at it's core with Worbla wrapped around. The new leaf is craft foam sandwiched between two layers of Worbla. A hole was drilled into the top centre of the apple to allow the stem to sit inside and secured in place with E6000.
