Miguel - The Road to El Dorado
Worn:
Anime North 2011 (Toronto, ON)
Oshawa Comic Con February 2016 (Oshawa, ON)
Status: On & Off Hiatus
Why Miguel?
Believe it or not but his personality and outlook on life are essentially my own! This was a super fun cosplay to get to do with a friend of mine who loves the movie as much as I do. It's a super comfortable cosplay to wear and I'm glad I took up the challenge of making the map, it was a lot of people's favourite part of the costume!
Shirt: The shirt is made of red broadcloth and my mom helped me put it together, the sleeves were the fun part has we custom shaped them. We didn't make them too big so that they wouldn't be too awkward in crowded spaces (ie Dealer's room). The collar was lots of fun xD
Pants: I took an old pair of pants and hemmed them to the correct length. I didn't add elastics for comfort reasons. And my belt is a men's medium in brown.
Wig: I ordered a powder yellow, medium length, from Cosplay.com Shopping. The bangs are pushed out of the way and secured, while one piece is hair glued in place (his emotion cow-lick). The wig was cut by my friend Michelle to length, and I fixed up the trims.
Beard & Thick Eyebrows: Done using eyeliner and eyeshadow
Other:
I made the map to El Dorado using muslin sheeting. I tea-stained it, and after two hours of drying, I sketched out the map, which took me about 4-6 hours to do to my satisfaction. After the sketch was finished, I inked it using black fabric markers, and then added all the colours. I did a touch more tea-staining at the edges. The map took a total of 10 hours to make.
I made 26 pieces of gold using small stones from my walkway. I made two bags to carry them using muslin, and pulling jute twine through to make a drawstring. The one bag is now in possession of 12Dee3 who is my Tulio.
Awards/Rewards:
Anime North 2011 - Being told I made someone's day (20 times) - I know it's not really an award, but it was rewarding
