Why Princess Aurora's Blue Dress?
I've loved Aurora since I was a kid, as Sleeping Beauty is my favourite animated Disney movie. I more often than not see people make her pink dress, and I personally prefer the blue. As well, she wears the blue dress in the film far more than she ever wears the pink.
Construction
Crown and necklace were 3D printed for me by my brother using his dad's printer. I just had to sand them with my rotary tool and spray paint.
Wig: Luthien in Pale Blonde from Arda Wigs Canada. Brushed out and trimmed one side of the bangs, and the curl is pinned in place with a gold coloured bobby pin - same wig as for Briar Rose.
Skirt: Fabric used was called Maestro solid (I looove this fabric so much now). It's super soft and comfortable. I made the skirt a normal rectangle pattern, doubled of my waist so that I could make all of her pleats accordingly. The waistband was made to the measurements of my waist, and has an elastic inside for support. The body of the skirt was then sewn onto the waistband. It was hemmed accordingly to just touch the floor.
Bodice: This was a mix of fabrics and techniques. For the actual bodice, the darker blue, was the same as the skirt fabric for material. I used McCalls Pattern M7885 designed by Angela Clayton and modified slightly for what I wanted. The bodice is fully lined. The sleeves and "triangle points" - I don't know what else to call them - are the same material and I custom drafted the patterns for those. The finishing on the pointed pieces are finished inside the bodice and on the back edges with bias tape that was hand sewn in place. The white collar piece is leftover white satin from an older project, and I used buckram inside to help it keep it's shape and stand up. It does up in the back via velcro for easy and quick in and out if needed.
