Red Lynx Sky Pirate Ren - Elemental Gelade
Worn:
Anime North 2012 (Toronto, ON)
Otakuthon 2012 (Montreal, QC)
Status: Retired
Why Sky Pirate Ren?
Originally I was supposed to make her main outfit that we see her wear through the series. But due to a vast lack of experience or knowledge, I ended up failing in making the main dress. I settled instead for her end of series / sky pirate outfit. Super simple to make and wear, and it's extremely comfortable. I regretted the boots though as they didn't fit properly and ended up with a few bruises that didn't go away for a long time.
The wig is mostly self-styled, I cut the bangs and my sister straightened them for me. My mom braided the back for me, and I cut the front pieces to length.
The armlets are made of left-over spandex from making Rider back in 2010. So this used up what remained of her. I used a three-thread stretch stitch for putting them together.
My shirt is made of a cotton-blend fabric. This is also made of left-over fabric. I bought the fabric for my eyepatch for Agito/Akito the previous year, but because there was so much I had enough to make the shirt. This was made using my own pattern to fit my body. The collar is also a bit of my own design.
Ribbon was cut at Fabric Land and I just added Mod Podge to the ends to prevent fraying.
The skirt is made without a pattern. I have a double-wide elastic in the waistband. Originally I was going to pleat this, but due to lack of fabric, I just gathered the top. It still turned out well though and it looks cute ^^ I may need to take the waistband in a little though...
The biker shorts were bought at Ardene.
Boots for Anime North: due to time constraints and funds, I just used the ones for her blue dress. At Otakuthon I will make the boots almost from scratch to what I need for custom shape to my legs!
The stone was bought at the dollar store and I carved the lines into it. I later hot-glued it to a hair clip for easy adding and removal to the wig.
