Why Pyramid Head?
Truthfully up until 2018 I had never before considered doing Pyramid Head as a costume. I liked this version a lot more than the movie iteration, and settled on making this design. It was interesting, different, and definitely underrated - which tends to be how my costume choices go!
Construction
So this was oddly much simpler to put together than I had at first anticipated.
The smock was relatively quick to do and is all one piece. It's assembled somewhat like a dress, but with legs? I don't really know how I can properly explain this part of the costume. To cover the part with the "leg holes" (cause it's definitely not pants or shorts, but it's not a skirt either), there is a 2 piece apron covering it. The costume only fits when I'm wearing my compression shirt. It closes using snap fasteners down the fold over on the torso of the smock, and velcro under the two leather straps on the front. All leather straps are made of leftovers from Lady. The weathering was done by watering down paint and basically throwing it onto the costume. There are some real ashes thrown in the mix too.
The gloves I had bought at Party City for a few bucks, and using a foam bowl with water and paint, made them look how I wanted. This was the fastest part of the whole outfit.
Boot covers are pretty simple. They're made using leftover fabric from a project about 6-10 years ago, and slide onto my leg and fasten underneath my shoes with snap fasteners. They secure to the "legs" of the smock with additional fasteners.
The helmet was interesting to make. I used foam puzzle pieces from Wal-Mart and cut and glued them into shape. The "braces" of the pieces were done in craft foam. There's a small hole at the top to allow for extra ventilation and light to seep inside. The helmet was painted using a mix of a metallic copper paint and black. Fake blood in some photos was from a Silent Hill nurse I encountered on Sunday of Anime North.
The Great Knife is foam board adhered together using PL300. My dad had cut out all 3 pieces (blade, handle, bolt) of the Great Knife on a scroll saw, and showed me how to use the caulking gun so I could adhere the pieces on my own. The entire thing was painted black after it was glued together, with details done in silver paint. It's broken once, and the piece was adhered back on with the PL300, but as it didn't cure right, I wrapped duck tape around it. This is close to where I hold it as well so it's easy to hide.
