Why Valentino?
Honestly, why not? I wanted to make this cosplay back in October 2020, but with trying to focus on Lucifer for a year he was on the back burner. February 2022 I set to finally making him, and he was a fun challenge to make. His design is fun to me and not gonna lie, I wanted to make another giant hat!
Construction:
Fluffy collar: This was probably actually the easiest part of the entire costume. I made a pattern based on the shapes for various arts (including the now deleted instagram, because thank you people who screenshot those!). I made it using fur I had in my stash, and the entire thing is completely hand sewn and filled with stuffing. The hearts were drawn on in fabric marker, aiming to mimic how some of his look in the art. It secures around my neck with two large hooks and eyes, and attaches to the back of the coat using a large snap fastener.
Hat: The main structure of the hat is EVA foam, covered in faux leather. Because each piece is covered in the leather it's hand sewn entirely together. All of the trims (some of which is leftover from Lucifer) was also sewn on by hand. Including the zebra fur and the old lace that I added. The two antennae are made out of the same EVA foam as the main structure of the hat, with worbla for stability, painted, and sealed. They are attached to the hat using contact cement.
Teeth: The teeth are made of Worbla Deco Art, and I used the same method as I did for the ones for Lucifer, making each individual tooth. The only difference is that I had to paint them pink and yellow. I used Plaid FX Satin Smooth paints in Fool's Gold and Enchanted Pink.
Coat: Honestly the coat is the piece-de-resistance! I made my own pattern for it, tailoring it to fit me. The coat is made of the same faux leather as the hat. The shoulders have added support for their shape with a custom shoulder pad that wraps around the back for added stability. The fur on the cuffs of the sleeves was hand sewn on. The zebra fur was altered into fitting for making a trim, with quilt batting inside for additional shape. The trim on the bottom was two fur trims I cut up and hand sewed together, and then machine sewed onto the bottom of the coat. The lining was completely hand sewn into the coat. I made a custom lining for the fur on the bottom using some excess scrap that I had on hand. The coat closes with snap fasteners and tiny hooks and eyes, I chose tiny ones as I wanted them to be near invisible when the coat was worn.
The buttons were a lucky find, finding heart shaped ones in a large pack that I bought, spray painted gold. On one side the heart and chain are sewn in place, and the other secure with a snap fastener to make it easier to undo the chain when I put it on or off.
