Veigar - League of Legends
Worn:
Otakuthon 2018 (Montreal, QC)
Status: Hiatus for Upgrades
Why Veigar?
First of all, he's called "The Tiny Master of Evil" in League of Legends. Yes, another villainous/evil type. I have a soft spot for them. I love Veigar's classic skin, and I love to play as him. He's honestly one of my favourites to play as in the game. His back story for how he came to be the way he is is actually quite fascinating to me so I wanted to portray him more because of his back story and lore.
I wanted to make Veigar for Otakuthon last year, but time was against me, also lack of good materials for his armour. But this year I got it done, and my boyfriend helped me with con crunch on a good portion on this one.
The hat was smaller than I initially wanted it to be, due to not having enough fabric for the large brim I wanted. I made the brim first, sewing the top and bottom layers around the buckram - turning them the right way after sewing. Measured the head hole size and went from there for making the 'cone' which also has buckram in it. The cone was machine sewn to the brim. The top part was custom shaped. To help the shape, there is wire running through the top and into the end, making it posable as well. There is fiber fill to fill the shape out, a piece of wire in a circle in the middle of the poof (to also help maintain the shape), and more fiber fil. There's a wire running down the back of the hat to help support the weight. Victor did this part, making the band and buckle out of L200 foam that he heat sealed and connected in back with contact cement. He painted them solid silver before sliding onto the hat.
I used one of my Simplicity Costume Patterns for the coat, doing very little modification to it. The outer part of the coat is the same fabric as the hat. It's partially lined with black cotton - all but the sleeves. The purple strip down the front was one of the first things I had sewn for the costume. I hand sewed this onto the coat. The coat closes with hook and eye fasteners in strategic places.
The belt was very quick and simple. The giant buckle is extra plywood from making the weapon. I made the base size and shape, and Victor went from there, cutting it out with a jigsaw, shaping, sanding, and then painting it to match what I needed. For the actual belt part it's just a long strip of pleather left over from Victor's pants I made him for Dante. The leather folds over itself on one side and closes with velcro.
