Water Spirit - Original
Worn:
Costume Con 35 (Mississauga, ON)
Status: Retired
I made this costume for the Single Pattern Contest at Costume Con 35. The goal was to take a base pattern and make it your own, modifying it all to heck or staying loyal. I went somewhere in the middle.
All of the satin and organza is all reused from previous costumes. The satins are reused from Articuno v.2 and Fancy Navi, and the organza is leftovers from Fancy Navi. The blue applique at the bottom front of the dress is from leftovers of Amano Zorn. All I had to buy was jewels.
I stayed fairly loyal to the original pattern.
The ruffles are all organza and tulle, folded over and pleated to represent waves. This was the most time consuming part of the costume.
The only modification on the sleeves besides shortening them is that the top of the sleeves has a layer of rich blue tulle and white soft crinoline over top of the satin.
The beads on the bottom of the dress are hand sewn on randomly to look like bubbles. The ones along the top of the applique are sewn to look like sea foam, alternating between small and medium sized pearl beads.
There is not much else to say on the construction of this, as well as that the petticoat underneath is the one I have used the past few years as I wanted to focus on the dress.
Photoshoot planned.
