This year was crazy in it's own way. It was busy in some ways, and slow in others. I experienced a lot of ups and downs, and I'm so excited to get into this year. As 2021 comes to a close it's time for my usual recap blog. I managed to get back to my favourite thing of actually sewing my cosplays instead of using things from my closet - which I still did a lot of. Most of what I did was also for TikTok, which became a great outsource for my built up energy. Yes, I'm still going pretty strong with TikTok and enjoying using the platform - though I'll not deny that there have been some frustrations with it, but that seems to be a given with any social media platform. It's pretty obvious what my pride and joy of the year is though *cough*Lucifer*cough*. I'm going to do my recap a bit differently this year, so here goes haha. Start of Year Expectations: I honestly didn't have a whole lot of expectations for the year. I really didn't. I had a few hopes, which was really only to finish Lucifer's full costume - which didn't happen until July. Most everything else truly ended up being a bonus. Lucifer did bring some new skills and helped me overcome a few fears. New skills with him was hand finishing button holes, using horse hair braid - in the bottom of the coat, making a giant foam hat, and working with Worbla Deco Art. With mention of the Deco Art, it helped a fear be overcome - fake teeth. I made the teeth out of the Deco Art, custom fit to only my mouth. I was always so afraid given the state of my teeth, but this made me more comfortable. As well, before Lucifer I was terrified of wearing contact lenses. He helped me overcome that long-term fear, and I'm very comfortable wearing them now. You can probably imagine my shock when I won an award for the hat in the Otakuthon at Home masquerade. I honestly didn't expect anything so I silent screamed when I heard my entry had won something. Sure it's for the hat but hey! There was one thing I had hoped for, and that was to finish Princess Hilda from Final Fantasy II. The cosplay is still unfinished, but mostly due to the fact that I have hit a roadblock in getting the costume done. Trying to do some problem solving to figure it out and then I can continue the costume. The Finished Costumes/Outfits of 2021: Not going to lie, I did a lot more than I thought I did. When I was first going through, looking at some of what I did this year, some I kept thinking "was this last year?" Only for me to look at the date of them, and they be this year. Honestly much of it was just for TikTok (most of the Lucifer looks). The PJs Lucifer was actually for the 2021 April Fools Prank of "PJ Con", but I did however make the apple pajama pants. The other things that I made this year were obviously, full Lucifer, Santa Jack Skellington, and Hero Navi. Hero Navi was technically actually made in 2020 but I didn't get the wig until this year, and I used all of the fabric for her tunic and hat - no scraps at all! In addition to these fully made costumes, I made the shirt for my male Vaggie / Vergil, and made the new cuffs for my Dabi cosplay. All else has been from my closet or purchased. I honestly didn't think I'd done so much this year. But again much was for TikTok, mostly for doing thirst traps and things. Something else that I found myself doing a lot of this past year. Naturally I'm most proud of Lucifer, with all of the work that I put into him and the effort to improve my skills, the makeup, everything. It was a bonus to win the award with him, and actually take him to a convention in November. Jack also has a special place in my heart since he was a childhood favourite and a huge comfort character. So doing him as a cosplay - even his Santa version, felt so wholesome. And making it with my own special details - the Christmas and Halloween buttons - made it even better. Looking To 2022: With the coming of 2022 though I want to get back to focusing on one of my original loves with cosplay and costuming: sewing and crafting. While I did do that this year, it was strange to mostly just do closet and bought cosplays. With the costumes that I aim to make in 2022 most of the work is going to be from scratch, maybe I can get away with using some base things, but most of it is going to be from the ground up. One of my primary focuses is going to be finishing a few costumes that I started in 2020 - one I can't really do anything until summer because props and I'm in Canada so cold weather and spray paint don't mix very well. Get those finished, and also make a few new ones. I have quite the list for this year of what I'd like to make, and if I don't do all of them, then no big deal. There's some bonus things I'm keeping to myself as well until their reveal so you'll see on those. As well I'm looking to learn more tailoring skills, improve on working with Worbla, get better with wigs, and of course learn a few more new things - whatever those will be. I don't have any specific things I'd like to learn that are brand new, but I just want to learn again, improve, and grow. Those are my main goals for this year. And this might sound insane, but I'm considering filming less for TikTok this year - so less time getting into cosplay to film content. And provide a broader variety of cosplay related videos as well besides performance. What do you hope to do in 2022?
