I normally never write about my makeup tests, since they are usually just simple things, try it out, and be done with it. This one was very different from that. Instead, I felt things about myself that I don't normally feel and I haven't really been able to stop looking at the selfies.

Anyone that's seen my costumes enough will know by now that I love Kuja from Final Fantasy IX. I've since 2012, made his Dissidia version, Battle Damaged, Amano, and a swimsuit version. I still have his Cloaked Anchorite version from Dissidia NT as an ongoing work in progress. And now, I'm nearly finished making the one I've wanted as long as Amano - Trance.
Another Making Of! This time I'm covering making the cocktail dresses that I had made for myself and my friend KassyPlay. These were a fun little side project that I was able to do for the KupoCon evening event, Gold Saucer Gala. I'm very happy with the outcome of these two dresses, and we're hoping to wear them again soon. I've actually been wanting to write this for quite some time, but wasn't sure previously of how to put it all into words. Now, I'm sure of how I want to put everything into this post. It's true that cosplay has changed my life, in more ways than I expected that it ever would when I started back in 2007.
Bit of a story time for you. Nine years ago, 2009, I had learned about the convention Colossalcon down in the US, and saw photos of someone who had done a swimmable Vaporeon cosplay. And soon discovered others who made swimmable versions of Vaporeon. This motivated me to create my own, but at the time, I had no sewing skills and was still very new to cosplay. Nine years later, I have finally made my Vaporeon cosplay that I so longed to do.
I had meant to write these blogs more frequently, but that didn't happen. Oops...
Over time people don't always realize just how far they have come when it comes to cosplay - or any hobby really. But it seems especially prominent in cosplay when older work becomes lost in the waves of new. And everyone seems to want to hide what they did when they first started doing cosplay. But it's an evolving hobby and it requires you to learn new things every now and again so that you can continue to grow in this fun and creative (albeit expensive) hobby! Since Pokemon first started airing back in the 90s I have seen every single season, movie, special and OVA since it's release. That's a lot of Pokemon over the years - although I've stopped at Sun & Moon because over the last few I have admittedly lost interest. But, despite how many Pokemon they have released in the 20 years since Pokemon started, Articuno has always remained to be my top favourite Pokemon ever. It's beautiful, blue, an ice type, and a bird are my admittedly primary reasons for loving it. Looking at Articuno would always make me so happy for reasons that I am not sure I can truly ever explain. There was something very soothing about Articuno for me and there still is till this day. Been working on Zorn so much over the last few weeks and the costume still isn't finished. But thankfully, he's almost done.
Like many of my friends, I am in the middle of Otakuthon cosplay rush. Luckily this time it's much smoother. And I don't have as much to do!
I have wanted to cosplay Yoko for years. I did my first cosplay back in November of 2007, and I had been dreaming of doing Yoko since September of that year. At that time I was even discussing with friends potential ways to make the cosplay more covering, but those plans and concepts never came to fruition.
Flash forward to 2015: Yoko is finally cosplayed, and only made slightly more covering for the sake of chest support. |
