This was the inaugural year of Anime Ottawa! It was really well run for a first year con, but I also expected that for a convention being run by the same people that puts on Ottawa Comic Con in September. Having it on Easter weekend was an interesting choice but it definitely made it fun! Friday Dabi - My Hero Academia It was fun getting to wear Dabi again for the first time in a couple years. I quickly fluffed up his wig and made it messier than it was before. I didn't do a whole lot on Friday since it was a shorter day - the convention started at 1pm on this day. Every few minutes I was finding different friends and giving hugs and compliments and admiring them all. I went to the "To The Top! Level Up Your Masquerade Game!" panel on Friday as well and picked up some extra tips. It had me more motivated for the next day. It wasn't long after this panel though that my partner and I headed home for the day. Saturday CC - Code Geass Originally I was supposed to wear Swordfighter Peach from her new game Princess Peach: Showtime! for Saturday. I had several malfunctions that morning and had some severe dysmorphia etc over my appearance and scrapped wearing even a casual version of Peach. As a last minute change (literally last minute), I pulled CC out of storage and put her on instead. While I'm sad that I had to back out of the masquerade, I feel it was overall the best for my mental health. Having things go wrong on the morning of (despite testing multiple times beforehand!) and my mental state heading south quickly, does not make for an ideal time in a competition. But getting to watch my friends on stage and support them meant even more! Thank you as well to everyone who checked on me during Saturday, it truly meant a lot! I had a lot of fun catching up with more of my friends this day too! Made sure to get photos with Richard still this day even though it wasn't the original planned costume! I have very few photos of CC so I took the opportunity! Sunday Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2 I brought Pyramid Head out for a convention for the first time since 2019! It was great getting to wear him again, and I realized as soon as I looked at myself in the mirror with the smock on (obviously with no helmet since I can't see when I wear it) that this was the first time I had worn it since getting any of my tattoos! All previous times were from before I even got my XIII! So excited to show off all 3 tattoos in this costume! I fixed my Great Knife the night before with duck tape so that I could use it one last time (and my friend's was turned down due to weight). Wearing Pyramid Head is always a great time! Started my morning off with going to the panel "Lessons Learned From Cosplay Mistakes" hosted by AnnieChie Designs and GoBeyond Cosplay. It was a great panel and made me realize some things of my own costuming. After the panel was over I was able to present GoBeyond with the rubber duck that I had for them since they were cosplaying Lucifer, that AnnieChie got on camera (I can't wait to see that little snippet!). Most of my day was wandering around, seeing friends, went to the Masquerade Award Ceremony to see how friends did and I'm so happy for those who won! All very well deserved and can't wait to see what everyone does next! End of the day was my panel "Cosplay For Beginners" which I expected to either be very empty (as it was at 4pm on Sunday, last event before the Closing Ceremonies) or full. I got about 3/4 full! Very impressed! And the panel went well and thank you to all who came and especially to those who offered their own input for the new cosplayers in the room. An especially big thank you to the staff member who was in on my panel for also giving additional information specifically relating to Ottawa Comic Con and Anime Ottawa! Very appreciated. Overall, for convention experience alone, this first year of Anime Ottawa I give a solid 8.5/10. There were some other things that the convention could never have a way of controlling, but that's a good start for a first year event!
