G-Anime 2023 was last weekend and I'm happy with how it went! My first masquerade and convention of the year, first new costume of the year and I'm excited to get to planning the next ones as a result. Saturday: Charlie Morningstar I woke up a little later than planned for Saturday but it didn't take me too too long to get into Charlie, the main focus being the makeup to get that on. I let my fiance drive my van over to the convention while I bought the tickets online so we didn't have to worry about buying them at the door. Pre-reg went quick, ran into TammChii before we got up to the line though! She looked awesome in her Nidalee (League of Legends) cosplay! Honestly I'm surprised at how well Charlie was received! I didn't expect people to like this cosplay as much as they did! I did 2 photoshoots too, one with Open Shutter Photography, the other with Henrickson! Very excited for both shoots! Just kinda sucks that green room check in was 3pm but that's ok! Time went pretty quickly, got everything done, made some new friends in the green room too which was even better! It was a nice supportive time and I'm here for it! My stage performance went better than I expected since uh... I barely practiced in all honesty given my current personal situation. My favourite part was that the audience was clapping along with the song. That made it all worthwhile on my song choice for my skit. After the masquerade walked about the con a little bit longer before my fiance Zandreth and I left to go get dinner and do karaoke at a local bar that he wanted to take me to. After I showered off Charlie's makeup of course. Sunday: Valentino Again, woke up late. I needed the sleep after the night before and thankfully Valentino's makeup was faster to do. Although I probably should have taken more time to even out the makeup like I did at Ottawa Comic Con - but this was Sunday of a con and it wasn't going to be that long a day soooooo I honestly didn't do a whole lot for Sunday besides walk around, bought a couple things - including a gift for one of my bridesmaids! I walked around with my cane for 90% of the day since my knee was bothering me so bad - it popped three times on Saturday. I attended gobeyond.cosplay's panel on cosplaying non-human characters. Learned a few things for adding onto my own non-human cosplays. And learned of a new type of body paint that I hadn't looked into - silicone based. Might get some eventually? Went to the award ceremony immediately after the panel and while yes I'm disappointed I didn't receive an award, I'm happy for all who did. Again, the audience reaction was enough! I got some feedback from the judges too and will be taking it into consideration for future costumes, and actually fixing up my Charlie cosplay for future wears. Overall G-Anime was a great weekend filled with seeing lots of friends and making new ones! I'm even more motivated for this year!
