Yep, I got married on November 3rd to one of my long-time best friends and I even made my wedding dress, bracelet, veil, and my husband's coat! It was a lot to do but I got it done and I'm so excited about the photos I've already received, and will receive in the coming weeks! This blog covers a little about the day, but is mostly about the process of making my dress and everything else. It was a magical day. But also stressful. Zandreth and I got to the venue around 10:30am to start setting up, which thankfully most of it wasn't too bad to do and we didn't actually have that much for decor. The biggest challenge of setup was the LED curtain lights that my friend Phoenix Cosplay in Scotland had sent us. They ended up being put up by my two bridesmaids, a friend of ours, and a sword. Yes. Sword. The ceremony started on time, which I'm honestly impressed by. My dad got a first look and I'm excited for the photo of him seeing me for the first time. I almost cried. The walk down the aisle was, less than graceful. My veil was about six meters (yes, METERS) long and it was really windy for our wedding day, so the wind caught it and wrapped it around a wall as soon as I walked out of the building for the ceremony. There were some laughs at least at that, and during the ceremony. I had my amazing friends Anniechie Designs & Strawbunny Cosplay as my bridesmaids, my younger sister as Maid of Honour, and my niece (childhood best friend's daughter) as my flower girl. I couldn't have asked for better honestly. The photos in the Fort were amazing and I look forward to all the photos from that. Very glad I hired Richard (Open Shutter Photography) for my wedding day. I couldn't have asked for a more fun photographer. Huge thank you as well to Francyne for more gorgeous photos as well! Anniechie and Strawbunny ordered their dresses from the site Holy Clothing and the only thing I asked was their dresses be the same blue, beyond that they could have whatever style they wished. One of my goals for their dresses was I wanted it to be something that they would be able to rewear for other things in the future. I'm impressed that my mother was able to find a shirt almost the exact same shade of blue for my sister to match my friends. Oh yeah - I made my bouquet too out of faux flowers from Dollarama and Wal-Mart! So, about the actual sewing. For my dress I used Simplicity Pattern 9891, modifying slightly to be what I wanted for my dress, as I was taking inspiration from Galadriel from Lord of the Rings for the silhouette and drape. The dress is made out of bridal satin and has a partial lining, the sleeves are crystal organza that are French seamed. I used an organza I bought in 2011 for the drape at the shoulders. There's lace detailing on the right hip that I added beads to as I needed at least a small pop of colour. Still very thankful to my friend Anniechie for coming and helping me with the final fit of my dress and the hemming! I couldn't have done it without her! For Zandreth's coat, the inspiration was Alucard from the Netflix anime Castlevania. I used Simplicity Pattern 4083 as the base pattern and modified it by adding quite a bit of length to each panel. The coat wasn't quite finished, but it was wearable. The black is heavy dull satin - same fabric type as my Lucifer coats and Final Form Xemnas, gold is a type of silky cotton. All of the gold trim is hand sewn on. Thankful again to Anniechie for helping the night before the wedding with finishing the lining in the coat and finishing the trim! The veil was just sewn onto a hair barette and I plan to recycle the tulle for it into something else in the future. The bracelet was a small bit of extra lace I had and a piece of the bigger lace I cut up sewn together. It secures using a small hook and eye. I have a gold key charm on the lace bracelet that I got from my old job. Very thankful to be able to say that I made my own dress for my wedding, which was one of my big goals for when I'd get married. An added bonus of that I made my husband's coat, all my flowers were cheap fake ones from the dollar store, I arranged my own bouquet, had amazing friends and family in attendance, married at a National Historic Site, and had my favourite photographer shoot the day!
