So I realize it's been a few cons since I actually wrote a blog. Oops. Missed writing for FanaticCon Brockville and YetiCon. At least now I'm getting caught up by writing about Otakuthon last weekend. Let's get back on track. I did my usual of driving up to Ottawa the Thursday night before going, staying at my partner Zandreth's apartment for the night. Though we did go to Jack Astor's together with our friend Red Mage for dinner as a kick off to the weekend. Friday Cosplay: Rainbow Asmodeus from Helluva Boss (as seen above) I woke up on time but sadly couldn't get my contacts in for Ozzie (eyes were still too tired) and didn't have energy for bothering with the ears. But the makeup was still a lot of fun. This ended up being the perfect choice for having to drive and be a Friday cosplay! It's super cozy! Zandreth and I went and picked up Red Mage on time, and we got breakfast before leaving Ottawa. And of course made our usual stop in Rigaud for restroom and the SAQ. Always a good stop. Switched drivers and I drove the second half of the drive to Montreal. We were so thankful that when I went to go and check about things with the hotel, we were able to check in immediately! We were checked in at 11:30 in the morning! I'm honestly amazed but I'm not complaining. Got our stuff into the room and we chilled for a bit and prepped for our weekend in Montreal. We were surprised and impressed at how quick the registration line went! Zandreth and I were in and out in maybe five minutes (at 1pm!) and Red Mage was through maybe twenty minutes later! I had an amazing and fun photoshoot with Richard of Open Shutter Photography of my Rainbow Ozzie! Such fun and colourful photos and I'm excited to see how the rest look after that quick edit preview! There was quite a variety of photos and I can't wait to share! Rest of the day went pretty smoothly. Mostly just walking around and checking things out, and re-familiarizing ourselves with the Palais des Congres de Montreal and soaking in the vibe of one of our favourite cons. I did buy a couple of things in the dealers room on Friday, two new collars - one picked out by my partner, and The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy art books with collector box. The Sky was my 'big spend' of the weekend and I am so happy to have found it at long last! I did my first photoshoot of the weekend of Richie as Trafalgar Law from One Piece! Took so many photos and made good use of my umbrellas and flash! I need to get in practice with it again haha. Saturday Cosplay: CC from Code Geass Slept in a little bit, compared to the day before. Thankful I had some breakfast foods in the hotel room, but Zandreth went and bought me a coffee at the Tim Hortons across the street from our hotel. I waited way too long to start getting ready into CC, but still got there at 10:30 in the costume. It was so hot outside it was almost unbearable. I'm glad I got to see quite a few friends this day, even if they were only brief moments. Hopefully they won't be so brief next time I see them. Such friends as Mokmo82 (Twitter), Anniechie, MaeGwyn, and Henrickson. Did a photoshoot with Strawbunny Cosplay of her Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon. OMG the photos are some of my faves I've ever taken and are so pretty and magical! I spent the next few hours walking around, and then did a photoshoot of the Negg Faerie from Neopets! So fun and very vibrant! After about 4:30 I was at my hotel room, cooling off, and didn't come back to the con until about 7pm or so. Zandreth and I didn't do a whole lot when we went back except walk around and go up to the Cosplay Cafe, sadly the only time we got up there too. But we had bubble tea and poutine - one of my fave foods ever. Back to the room afterwards, filmed some TikToks, and sleep. Sunday Cosplay: Nougami Neuro 2.0 from Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro I slept in later this morning, but still early enough that I could go see what I really wanted to see during the entire convention. I got dressed into Neuro, and I'm honestly impressed that the contacts went in on one try each. The only real downfall today besides the insane heat was that I got all the way down to the downstairs lobby of my hotel, and realized I'd forgotten my pass. Got most of the way back to the room and my partner had it in his hand ready to give to me. We went and watched the Canadian preliminaries for the World Cosplay Summit. Something I'd wanted to go see in person since it's first year, but never had the chance for varying reasons. I'm so glad I made it to this year. We got there in time to see the judges being announced for the competition, and got to see all three amazing teams! Everyone was out of this world, but I'll admit I was there to cheer on my two friends who entered most of all. I literally screamed when Team AnniMae (Anniechie Designs & MaeGwyn Cosplay) were announced as Team Canada 2023. I'm so incredibly happy for them and couldn't even shut up this past week about their win to my family and all of my coworkers, who also extended congratulations to them. I'm sad I didn't get to see them after the competition to hug them and congratulate them in person, but I know I'll be able to sometime down the road, even though I've posted numerous times on my socials about it xD Most of the day was spent wandering the convention, and didn't do much in general after WCS prelims. I did however make it back into the dealers room and was able to buy a Pokemon plushie for my niece for her birthday (which was just yesterday). Got my niece and Alolan Vulpix (and when I gave it to her this past Wednesday she was so excited for it). I was happy to run into my friend Henry - Henrickson - and we did a quick mini shoot together! First time in a very long time and I'm very excited for those photos! Red Mage also took a few photos of my Neuro at fire fountain after the rain subsided. We weren't able to do our usual tradition of La Popessa on the Sunday for dinner, as we discovered the Saturday that they are now closed on Sundays. We'll have to change what day we go to La Popessa next year or choose a different restaurant for end of con dinner. Red Mage and I took advantage of the pool and hot tub when we got back to the hotel. We needed it. We were only in the pool for maybe 10 minutes, and then spent over half an hour in the hot tub - because we're old and our bodies were in protest after all the walking on the weekend. As a bonus though Zandreth and I got to see our friend Natasha after about 4 years and we had a surprise for her - us dating haha. It was so good to see her and have some drinks, play Mario Party, and have pizza to finish off the weekend. Monday It was the most stress free packup and checkout I've had for a hotel in a very long time. Bonus I didn't even have to do the driving from Montreal to Ottawa - Zandreth did! It was really nice and he did great for his first time driving downtown Montreal. I was sad to have to leave Montreal, and part ways with Red Mage and Zandreth, but I know I'll see them again before long.
