I've been neglecting writing out my convention blogs this year, even though yes, I have only attended two more since GAnime back in January, but I thought I'd do a quick write up about CAPE and FanaticCon Brockville to give some extra insight about my days at those two events. CAPE 2022 Left to right: @musicmistresscosplay as Sailor Moon, myself as Sailor Mercury, @cosmic.cowgirl.cosplay as Sailor Venus, @reckless_ladycosplay as Sailor Mars, @soulette_cosplay as Sailor Jupiter, @maegwyncosplay as Sailor Saturn, @anniechiedesigns as Sailor Uranus, @bandit_spurs as Sailor Neptune, @symphonyandsilk as Sailor Pluto | | Photography by Open Shutter Photography CAPE had a childhood dream come true where I got to be Sailor Mercury for a full Sailor Scout group for the Saturday of the convention! I only attended Saturday this year, but it was a lot of fun getting to be part of this amazing and memorable group. I got there decently early (about 10:30) and got changed into Mercury on arrival. Spent almost the entire day at the cosplay corner except for the brief time I took to walk around the exhibitors. This sadly ended up being a bad knee day so I was moving kinda slowly for much of it and had to use my cane on and off throughout the day. The Sailor Moon group was a big hit for all who attended Saturday, especially one young girl in a wheelchair who was over the moon to see all of us and got pictures with us. Definitely a highlight of my year getting to be a part of this group, and honestly even a highlight of my years cosplaying. FanaticCon Brockville FanaticCon Brockville was my first time having my own booth in about 9 years, using it to sell prints of my cosplays, art, show costume pieces I've made, and tried to help my mom and sister with having some of their things at the table.
I was a judge this year for the costume contest this year, having won the champion belt the year prior (seen in the centre of the table in the photo) with Valentino that I managed to get on a mannequin to showcase the costume that won. The pieces I'd brought to show what I'd made (Pyramid Head's helmet, Nero's Devil Breaker, Master Sword, Sailor Jupiter keyblade), was to show that you can make cool things for a low budget, and that it's ok to be new at things and not start out great at them. I got to see quite a few friends and a huge thank you to Anniechie Designs for letting my fiance and I stay at her house for the Saturday night since I had to be there early Sunday morning. It was really awesome to get to talk cosplay with everyone all day at FanaticCon and learn some things and teach others. A huge congrats to this year's winner Sandra Dee Cosplay, who will have a booth at FanaticCon Brockville 2024! I don't know if I'll enter the contest again next year, but I may go just to support the con and see friends. It's a very worthwhile small convention that deserves love.
