Normally I try to do this before the end of the year, but things got crazy busy in my personal life in the last couple of weeks so I didn't have much opportunity until now! This year was more relaxed in the costume area, and definitely busier when it came to conventions since I was able to go to them again! JanuaryCostume: Nougami Neuro v.2 - Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro I spent the month of January working on Neuro, a costume I'd wanted to remake for a few years. Originally in 2020 I wanted to try and fix up the original I made in 2010, but because of my inexperience when making the original, it proved a LOT harder to improve that. So I completely remade the whole costume over the month of January. In addition to making Neuro, I also filmed TikTok content and took photos on my phone. I learned more about wig styling - specifically adding wefts into wigs, learned about proper suit making techniques, and tried my very first pair of mini Sclera contact lenses - surprisingly easier than normal lenses! February & March Costume started: Valentino - Hazbin Hotel TikTok Outfit: Thirst Asmodeus - Helluva Boss Fixed up/improved: Dabi (Boku no Hero Academia) & Link (Zelda: A Link Between Worlds) I started working on Valentino from Hazbin Hotel in February, and was working on him up until the day before his debut in May. I learned a lot more about working with faux leather and making coats properly with it. I also improved my skills with large cartoony hats thanks to Valentino - I still need to finish the video tutorial/walkthrough from making that hat. For TikTok I did thirst Asmodeus, partly as preparation to do proper Asmodeus for acting. I had a lot of fun with that! I also started the fixing and improvements for Dabi and Link, to have them ready for Cornwall & Area Pop Event (CAPE) in April. The improvements for Dabi were a new wig and hemming his shirt. For Link, it was fixing up the wig a bit, repainting my old Master Sword (formerly the Dark Master Sword), and making the Hylian Shield! April Costumes Reworn: Link (Zelda: A Link Between Worlds) & Dabi (Boku No Hero Academia) Events: CAPE I fixed up and added two a couple costumes from prior years. Link I made back in 2019, debuting in 2020. I got to wear him on the Sunday of CAPE with my friends for an ALBW group. Made me very thankful I still had Link and that the costume still fit so I could wear him with these lovely ladies! I also improved my cosplay of Dabi that I'd bought the year prior - new wig, a flame prop, and finally hemming the shirt. This was the first time I'd ever had the chance to go to CAPE in Cornwall, and honestly my first time in Cornwall in a number of years. Never got to go to CAPE previously with con rush for Anime North that was normally in May. CAPE was a lot of fun and if I have the opportunity to I'd like to go again - although it's uncertain for 2023 with planning my wedding this year. May Costume: Valentino - Hazbin Hotel Events: FanaticCon Brockville This month really started to kick off how awesome my 2022 was. I got to go to FanaticCon Brockville, first time Fanatic had ever been in town. I finished Valentino in time for the event, though I do wish it had been a bit cooler outside with how hot the costume was. But upon arriving at FanaticCon I received a lot of compliments, guest Abbey Haygard wanted a photo with me (pictured above), and got to see a friend I hadn't seen in years! I entered the costume contest and WOW! I won Best in Show! I actually shrieked and cried a little bit when Anniechie announced "Best in show goes to the pimp from Hell, Valentino!". Honestly, this is my all time favourite award, mostly due to the fact that it is a Championship belt! I can't wait to be back there again in May, this time with a booth, and I'll be judging the contest! June Costumes Reworn: Nero (Devil May Cry 5), Lucifer (Hazbin Hotel), BDSM Lucifer (Hazbin Hotel), Cloud Strife (FF7: Advent Children), Hero Navi (Legend of Zelda) Events: YetiCon Things picked up in June a bit. I only rewore costumes this month, every single one I wore to YetiCon had been done previous years, and just needed updating. Nero had the most updates (thus why he's featured more), with getting a necklace finally, bracelets, finally making a Devil Breaker, and making Red Queen! Had a couple photoshoots for YetiCon too! Though still waiting on two of them. For personal life things though, that was big enough to share and became common knowledge pretty quickly, I started going out with my long time friend Zandreth Cosplay, who I've known since 2013! July Costume worked on: Rainbow Asmodeus - Helluva Boss Events: None I didn't attend any conventions, actually skipped Anime North to go see Zandreth. I worked on Rainbow Ozzie this month where I could. The biggest downside of this year was this month - I caught COVID and was bed ridden for a week. August Costume: Rainbow Asmodeus - Helluva Boss Costumes Reworn: Nougami Neuro v.2 (MTNN) & CC (Code Geass) Events: Otakuthon Otakuthon was pretty chill and relaxed and I didn't really do too much. I relaxed in the hotel room a lot if I became too overwhelmed, tired, or my knee was killing me. Unfortunately since I got COVID in July, I didn't have time to finish Rainbow Ozzie fully in time for Otakuthon. But the most important part was done - the rainbow pants. Best part of Otakuthon was getting to watch the WCS Canada Prelims on the Sunday, and seeing my friends Anniechie and Mae Gwyn become Team Canada for 2023! I'm so incredibly proud of them and excited for them and can't wait to see how they do in Nagoya later this year! September Costumes Reworn: Valentino - (Hazbin Hotel) & Hero Navi (Legend of Zelda) Events: Ottawa Comic Con This was my first time back to Comic Con since 2017! I never got to attend for more than either the Friday or the Saturday in previous years, but this year I got to attend for both Saturday and Sunday. I registered for the masquerade online, spend time with friends at the convention, and helped inspire and motivate a young cosplayer who attended her first convention that weekend - and it was her first masquerade!! I was so happy to win an award for Valentino's hat. I find it kinda funny that it's for the hat, but I mean, look at that thing. I'm so proud of it. A big highlight of my year! October Costumes: Amano Princess Hilda - Final Fantasy II & Female Ghostface - Scream Events: KupoCon Le Pom To start off October, I got engaged to my partner Zandreth! October 1st at 7:30 we got engaged at the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. Needless to say, perhaps the best day of my entire year! Also finally got Princess Hilda to a wearable point, having started her back in 2020, having her as a scrap epic project - I only had to buy a couple laces (used on the headdress), some beads, and the wig. While she wasn't truly recognizable because she's from an older game, she was well received for all the little details. Sadly upon arrival at KupoCon one of the horns on the headdress broke so I couldn't wear it around the con - maybe a good thing, because it was a bit crowded! Otherwise October was so good for cosplay and my personal life. Another personal life thing was meeting my future father-in-law, seeing my mother-in-law and one of my sisters-in-law, and seeing my partner graduate from college! November I took a break from crafting and working on costume things during the month of November. I took as well a break from even making content. The only thing that really happened this month was my 33rd birthday in all honesty! December Started: Charlie Morningstar - Hazbin Hotel
Reworn: Lucifer Morningstar - Hazbin Hotel (for making TikTok content) I got back to crafting for the end of the year, starting my first costume of 2023 early in the month, and I'm aiming to have her finished for GAnime to enter into the masquerade. Very excited about attending GAnime with my fiance! Other than starting Charlie and filming some new content for TikTok as Lucifer - mostly because I received rubber ducks - I didn't do much besides some normal holiday related things. Into 2023: I'm looking forward to this year's goals and projects. But my primary focus is going to be planning my wedding and making my wedding dress. Four of my planned projects are confirmed, the others depend entirely on time and funds - though one I aim to be as much of a stash project as I can. Confirmed Projects: Charlie Morningstar - Hazbin Hotel - Everything bought, costume started, preparing for competition Lucifer Morningstar 1.5 - Hazbin Hotel - Fabric for the new coat purchased, just making the new coat, gold snake, crown for the hat Asmodeus - Helluva Boss - All fabrics bought, sewing started, wig bought, just have some mocking up to do before proper sewing Female Demise - Zelda: Skyward Sword - Wig and lights bought, mockups started and material hunting Unconfirmed Projects: The Watery Card - CardCaptor Sakura - Dream costume, material hunting, depending on time and funds Hermes - Record of Ragnarok - Depends entirely on time, I know I can make him relatively low cost, just the tailoring of a tailcoat/suit takes time Amano Princess Sarah - Final Fantasy - Rough ideas of fabric choices, hopefully a stash project. I'd like to at least have her started by the end of the year Ace - Helluva Boss - Potentially stash/closet project given the styling of the costume
