This was the inaugural year of Anime Ottawa! It was really well run for a first year con, but I also expected that for a convention being run by the same people that puts on Ottawa Comic Con in September. Having it on Easter weekend was an interesting choice but it definitely made it fun!

First convention of the year! Fairly laidback but also decently busy. I'm very happy with how the weekend turned out. Saturday Lucifer Morningstar v1.5 - Hazbin Hotel I wore my newly completed version of Lucifer from Hazbin Hotel, having finished it in time for the debut of the series on the 19th. The costume included pieces from the original make, as well as fixing up a few pieces and remaking others. More of that on his page here. I spent time with my friends Anniechie Designs and Maegwyn Cosplay at their booth, talking and catching up, all of us excited for the masquerade that day. I didn't do too much beyond talking with friends I hadn't seen in a long time and hugging them before I had my appointment in the Green Room for judging, photos, sound tech, etc. I was not expecting however to be told that I was entry 49, the final entry in the masquerade so I would be closing out the show. I had done it once before (or close to) many years prior, but here I was being the closer! There wasn't much beyond that and the shenanigans I had in the green room with my friends and talking to people who were new to masquerades and giving them encouragement! Sunday Daddy Halsin - Baldur's Gate 3 Sunday I thankfully got to sleep in a bit and my husband and I got to the con sometime around 11. Again much of the day was spent wandering and talking with friends, and went to lunch with our friends Anniechie Designs and Maegwyn, Arcticwerewolf, etc. It was a good time. Sat in as well on Anniechie and Maegwyn's panel about making magical girl cosplays, which I found really informative in helping me with the few magical girls I want to cosplay. Very helpful! After was the award ceremony! I'm so happy for all of my friends who received something in every division! I'm so proud of them all and they are so well deserved! I was in shock when they got to Masters though and the first one they called up was "Honourable Mention for the Lipsync" and said entry 49, MY ENTRY! My first time entering Master and I received a thing! I'm so happy about that and still surprised. Going to work even harder! It was a very good weekend and it was a good chance to also test run how well my compression shirt does during a convention day - or more so how I do wearing it... I'm looking forward to the next convention even more now!
This was quite the year! Not just in cosplay but also in my personal life. Actually, especially in my personal life. It was a big year with a lot of changes, a few goals reached and two of them being very long term ones.
I'll work month to month, covering what was going on and what I was making. Yep, I got married on November 3rd to one of my long-time best friends and I even made my wedding dress, bracelet, veil, and my husband's coat! It was a lot to do but I got it done and I'm so excited about the photos I've already received, and will receive in the coming weeks!
This blog covers a little about the day, but is mostly about the process of making my dress and everything else. I've been neglecting writing out my convention blogs this year, even though yes, I have only attended two more since GAnime back in January, but I thought I'd do a quick write up about CAPE and FanaticCon Brockville to give some extra insight about my days at those two events.
G-Anime 2023 was last weekend and I'm happy with how it went! My first masquerade and convention of the year, first new costume of the year and I'm excited to get to planning the next ones as a result.
Normally I try to do this before the end of the year, but things got crazy busy in my personal life in the last couple of weeks so I didn't have much opportunity until now! This year was more relaxed in the costume area, and definitely busier when it came to conventions since I was able to go to them again!
So I realize it's been a few cons since I actually wrote a blog. Oops. Missed writing for FanaticCon Brockville and YetiCon. At least now I'm getting caught up by writing about Otakuthon last weekend. Let's get back on track. I did my usual of driving up to Ottawa the Thursday night before going, staying at my partner Zandreth's apartment for the night. Though we did go to Jack Astor's together with our friend Red Mage for dinner as a kick off to the weekend. Took a bit but finally sitting and doing my blog for CAPE! CAPE (full name Cornwall and Area Pop Event) is a con that I never got to go to pre-COVID as I was always in my mad dash to Anime North - back when I was trying to make and do too much in a short period of time. This year I finally got to go! It was well worth it to see some friends and experience a new con! Anyone who has known my work pre-COVID knows that my usual for cosplay is to spend basically from October/November until August working on costumes almost continuously. Since COVID however that has drastically changed, to the point that I have done very little sewing and crafting since May 2020.
Some of the reasoning was not having any conventions or events to go to over the course of the pandemic (until November 2021). Once I finished Lucifer's official costume however, I felt the return of my motivation bit by bit, so I tried to do little things to help push and improve it. There were other things at play that had made me not want to craft though... |
